With the launch of our new community on Discord, we felt it was appropriate to give back to all of our members with the eventual release of a Community Connect 3 (SR4) server. We will initially ask the community for their opinions regarding server name, domain, network configuration etc. and James will demonstrate the process via several Discord Live Events. These will be recorded for members who are unable to attend the events. We hope that CC3 will bring back some memories and is something to look forward to in the not too distant future.

Due to the process being lengthy, it will be split over several sessions, with summaries and recorded copies available below:

Section One - Introduction

Objectives

  • Prepare the server for installation
  • Commissioning of a new Greenfield CC3.2, Build 290 Forest Root Domain Controller
  • Installation of CC3 XP Service Pack 2
  • Installation of CC3 Service Release 5
  • Installation of Hardware Support Pack 22
  • Installation of CC3 Service Release 6
  • Add first Windows XP workstation to the network

Section Two - Preparation

Preparing for Commissioning

  1. Create new Virtual Machine for CC3-SR-001 in VMware ESXi
  2. Generate Server Build Files using the Server Build Assistant on Build Server
  3. Create Server Build Floppy Disk
  4. Read through engineer checklist to ensure all required files are preparated and readily available.

Section Three - Installation

Performing the Installation

  1. Operating System is installed from a network share located on the Build Server as an unattended installation.
  2. Disk Partitions are created automatically from the KIX Server Build Scripts.
  3. RM CC3 packages are copied from the Build Server using Robocopy, this process is referred to as a "Factory Build".
  4. Active Directory, DNS and DHCP are automatically installed with the domain controller being promited from the build scripts.
  5. RM Components are then installed via a KIX script, which can take around one hour to complete.
