Hotfix to allow RM Desktop Agent to deliver folders to users AppData areas [HFXCC3024]
Published Date : 01 May 2003 Last Updated : 13 Feb 2020 Content Ref: DWN102866

Description

**Please note this only applies to Community Connect 3™ and RM Smart-Tools 3 networks**

Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

IMPORTANT

This RM hotfix uses the RM Station Upgrade Utility package to update components on the Community Connect 3 workstations.

BEFORE installing this hotfix ALL workstations on the Community Connect 3 network must have been restarted since the installation of any other previous update which uses the RM Station Upgrade Utility package.  This includes RM Service Release 2 (SR2), RM Tablet PC Support Pack, and a number of other RM hotfixes.  Please ensure now that ALL workstations have been restarted since installing any of these products on your network.

After installation of this RM hotfix ensure that ALL Community Connect 3 workstations are restarted.  During the station upgrade process several automated restarts will occur.  To ensure the station upgrade process has finished, wait for two minutes before logging on to the workstations.

If you have any locations with Block Inheritance enabled then the stations within those locations will not automatically be allocated the new RM Station Upgrade Utility package.

Problem Statement

RM Desktop Agent allows the contents of any shell folders (e.g. Application Data, SendTo, Start Menu etc.) to be managed in various ways when users log on.  Desktop Agent's AppData mechanism fails if the destination folder does not exist.

Solution Statement

A new version of RM Desktop Agent has been written to address the problem of AppData destination folder delivery.  If a folder is not present, it is created.

What will the Hotfix change?

HFXCC3024 installs a new version of the RM system package RM Desktop Agent and automatically allocates this to all stations within Main Site.

Platforms

Before installing HFXCC3024, your Community Connect 3 network must already have Service Release 2 (SR2) fully installed.  It can also be installed onto a Community Connect 3 network which has Service Release 3 (SR3) fully installed.

The hotfix should be installed on each Community Connect 3 domain controller; workstations will need to be restarted to install the new packages.

Note:- HFXCC3024 does not need to be run on Community Connect 3 Member Servers or DAMMS servers.

Download Instructions

  1. Select the HFXCC3024.exe file to download.
  2. Choose to "Save" the file, browse to the location you wish to save it to and click OK.
  3. When it has downloaded follow the installation instructions below to install the hotfix on each Community Connect 3 SR2 or SR3 domain controller.

Installation Instructions

  1. Log on to your first Community Connect 3 domain controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the hotfix to a temporary location (e.g. D:\temp).
  2. Run the hotfix by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3024.exe).  The hotfix will extract files automatically and run the RM Installation Assistant to install the hotfix.
  3. When prompted, click Continue.
  4. The installation will proceed automatically.  When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.
  5. Repeat Steps 1-4 at all your other Community Connect 3 Domain Controllers.
  6. The hotfix has now assigned a new package called "RM Station Upgrade Utility" to Main Site.  To fully install the hotfix, restart all your Community Connect 3 workstations: RM Station Upgrade Utility will be seen in the RM Application Agent progress dialogue being installed.  The process of "installing" the hotfix actually consists of deinstalling the old version of RM Desktop Agent and then installing the new version.  This process involves further automatic rebooting of the station.

Note:- Ensure ALL Community Connect 3 stations are rebooted.

How to complete a cancelled installation

If you cancel an installation before it completes then follow these instructions:

  1. Log on to your first Community Connect 3 Domain Controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin).
  2. Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3024_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe. (If this folder or its contents does not exist, re-run the HFXCC3024.exe file downloaded from the RM Support website).
  3. The RM Installation Assistant will initialise. Click Continue to proceed with the installation.
  4. The installation should proceed automatically. Click Finish when prompted.
  5. Follow the procedures in 'How to install the Hotfix' from step 5 above.

Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases
  • HFXCC3024 will be included in Service Release 4.
  • The hotfix should only be installed onto networks running Community Connect 3 Service Release 2 or 3 (SR2 or SR3).
  • If SR3 is installed after installing HFXCC3024, it is not necessary to re-apply HFXCC3024.
