Published Date : 01 Jun 2004 Last Updated : 13 Feb 2020 Content Ref: DWN103547

Description

Note: The contents of this hotfix are included in Service Release 4 (SR4). If you have already installed SR4 you do not need to install this hotfix. If you have not yet installed SR4, you should consider installing this Critical Hotfix at your earliest convenience.

Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

IMPORTANT

This hotfix should only be installed on Community Connect 3 domain controller servers which have already had RM Service Release 2 or Service Release 3 (SR2 or SR3) installed.  All workstations must have been restarted since Service Release 2 or 3 was installed.

Problem Statement

Microsoft have released significant security updates to a number of key Windows components to improve their security and performance.  HFXCC3015 contains these updates in a format easily applied to Community Connect 3 networks.

Solution Statement

If you have not yet installed SR4, we recommend that you apply this hotfix as soon as possible if you are running a Community Connect 3 network. Apply HFXCC3015 to Community Connect 3 domain controllers and workstations as detailed in the installation instructions below.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If you have RM EasyMail Server installed on your Community Connect 3 network, there will be a problem displaying Imail Administrator after installing HFXCC3015. Follow the instructions below in the section Correcting the problem with Imail Administrator.

What will this hotfix change ?

HFXCC3015 contains three critical Microsoft security updates which are applicable to Windows 2000 Server and/or Windows XP Professional:

  1. MS02-071: Windows WM_Timer Message Handling (328310) - applied to Community Connect 3 domain controllers and workstations
  2. MS02-072: Windows Shell patch (329390) - applied to Community Connect 3 workstations
  3. MS03-001: Windows Locator Service (810833) - applied to Community Connect 3 domain controllers and workstations

More information on the issues resolved by each of these fixes is available from Microsoft's website http://www.microsoft.com.

Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases

HFXCC3015 is not included in Community Connect 3 Service Releases 1, 2 or 3 (SR1, SR2 or SR3).

HFXCC3015 will be included in Service Release 4.

  6. NOTE: After installation at a server, the server will need to be rebooted for the hotfix to be applied fully.
  7. Repeat Steps 2-5 at all your other Community Connect 3 Domain Controllers.
  8. NOTE: After installation at a server, the server will need to be rebooted for the hotfix to be applied fully.

Three new RM System Packages have now been allocated to Main Site and will be installed on to workstations when they are restarted. These three packages are as follows :-

  • Windows WM_Timer Hotfix 328310 (client)

  • Windows Shell Hotfix 329390

The workstations will perform automated restarts during the allocation of these packages.

Installing after cancelling a previous install
  1. Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3015_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe. (If this folder or its contents does not exist, re-run the HFXCC3015.exe file downloaded from the RM Support website).

Correcting the problem with Imail Administrator

Subsequent to installing HFXCC3015, there is a problem with the display in Imail Administrator. The contents within the right pane will not be positioned correctly. To correct this follow the instructions below to remove an individual Windows 2000 Server hotfix which HFXCC3015 has installed.

NOTE:  The server will need to be restarted to complete this process.

  1. On the Community Connect 3 server which has EasyMail Server installed, log on as Administrator (not SystemAdmin)
  2. Close any applications which are open
  3. Go to Start >Control Panel> Add / Remove Programs
  4. In the list, highlight Windows 2000 Hotfix (Pre-SP4) Q328310
  5. Click the Change / Remove button
  6. Select Next to continue the Uninstall wizard
  7. A message may appear advising "If Q328310 is removed, these programs might not run properly. Do you want to continue." If this occurs click on Yes to continue
  8. When the uninstall completes click Finish. The server will then restart.
  9. Log on as Administrator and ensure that Imail Administrator is now displayed correctly.

A long-term solution to this problem is currently being developed and should be available in Autumn 2003.
Do not apply any 3rd party patches or hotfixes to try and resolve this issue.
