Summary
Update to resolve the issue of delegated managers who are not members of the Domain Admins group not being able to manage remote machines via the RM Management Console.
Description
Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support website. These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.
Any references to Community Connect 3™ in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.
Platforms
HFXCC3198 is applicable to Community Connect 3 networks with Service Release 6, Windows 2003 SP1 or Windows 2003 SP2.
Symptoms
Tightened DCOM permissions implemented by Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 mean that delegated managers who are not members of the Domain Admins group will not be able to manage remote machines via the RM Management Console. A remedy for this was included in Community Connect 3 Service Release 6 which corrected the situation for accounts that were a member of the RMMC {MT} group. However, this group is not present on all Community Connect 3 networks.
Cause
An issue was discovered with the earlier versions of the DCOM RMMC User Access update supplied with SR6 which presumed the RMMC {MT} group was present in the domain.
Requirements
This software update allows the DCOM RMMC to check for the presence of RMMC {MT} and RMMC {AR} (an equivalent group) and assigns DCOM permission to whichever is present.
HFXCC3198 will update the DCOM permissions to allow local and remote launch and activation.
