Update to RM Printer Wrapper Service [HFXCC3209]

Note: Any references to Community Connect® 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

Before installing any Software Update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support Web site (see Other Useful Articles below). These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding Software Update installation and support.



Platforms

HFXCC3209 is applicable to Community Connect 3 networks using RM Printer Credits with RM Auditor configured to audit print jobs.



Symptoms

If you are using RM Auditor to monitor print jobs, then on rare occasions the print queue may stop responding on the server and the only solution is to restart the RMC3IEngine.



Cause

HFXCC3209 delivers a new version of the RM Printer Wrapper Service component to help overcome this issue. This new version ensures that the print queue cannot hang should the issue occur. Note that in the rare case that this does happen, the audit information for the print job will be lost.



Requirements

You should only install this update if you are using RM Auditor to audit print jobs and you have experienced hanging print queues.

HFXCC3209 should be installed on all Community Connect 3 domain controller servers beginning with the Forest Root. Servers will not need to be restarted after applying this Software Update, but workstations will need to be restarted to update the RM Printer Wrapper Service component.



Download Instructions

  1. Log on to your first Community Connect 3 domain controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin).
  2. Click the HFXCC3209.exe file link below to download the Update.
  3. Choose to Save the file, browse to the temporary location you wish to save it to (eg Desktop or D:\Temp) and click Save.
  4. When the file has downloaded, follow the installation instructions below to install the Update.

Installation Instructions

How to install the Update

Note: If you previously started to install the Update but cancelled the operation, follow the installation instructions in the 'Installing after cancelling a previous install' section below:

  1. Log on to the Community Connect 3 server as an Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the Update to a temporary location (eg D:\temp).
  2. Run the Update by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3209.exe).
    The Update will extract files automatically and run the RM Installation Assistant to begin the installation.
  3. When prompted, click Install.
  4. When prompted, click Continue.
  5. The installation will proceed automatically. When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 at all your other Community Connect 3 domain controllers.
  7. Restart all Community Connect 3 workstations to complete the installation across the network.

Installing after cancelling a previous install

  1. Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3209_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe (if this folder or its contents does not exist, re-run the HFXCC3209.exe file downloaded from the RM Support Web site).
  2. Follow the procedures in 'How to install the Update' from step 3 above.

Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases

The components of HFXCC3209 will be included in a future Community Connect 3 Service Release.

HFXCC3209 is not included in Service Release 5 or 6.
