Summary
Update to the RMVP 4 client package for Community Connect 3 workstations [HFXCC3214].
Description
Before installing any Software Update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 in the Other Useful Articles section below. These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding Software Update installation and support.
Any references to Community Connect™ 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.
Requirements
HFXCC3214 should be installed on Community Connect 3 networks running RM Virus Protect 4.
This update should be installed on to all Community Connect 3 Domain Controllers.
Note: All workstations will need to be restarted in order to install the updated client package. You should therefore plan to install the update in out-of-hours to minimise disruption to your network.
What will the update change?
HFXCC3214 delivers Symantec Antivirus 10.1.7 (Maintenance Release 7) to all XP CC3 workstations which addresses the symptoms below. This is in the form of an updated RM Virus Protect 4 XP client package.
More information on the issues resolved by this update is available from Symantec's website http://www.symantec.com
Platforms
HFXCC3214 should only be installed if you are running RM Virus Protect 4 on your Community Connect 3 network. It needs to be installed on all Community Connect 3 Domain Controllers. Servers will not need to be restarted after applying this software update.
Note: Do not install this update on a network where the workstations are currently running RMVP3. If you attempt to install this update at the same time as you attempt to upgrade from RMVP3 to RMVP4 then the update will fail and the workstations will not have any RMVP software installed on them.
Symptoms
There have been reports that many workstations are exhibiting memory issues relating to one of the core components of Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition; Rtvscan.exe. Workstations exhibiting these symptoms may contain any one of the following entries in the Windows Event Viewer - Application Log, alternatively they may also be displayed as a pop-up on the windows desktop.
"Windows - Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low : Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file. During this process, memory requests for some applications may be denied."
"Rtvscan.exe - Application Error: The instruction at "0x77fcc8e1" referenced memory at 0x00000000.... The memory could not be "read."
