Hotfix to allow limited ordering of RM packages [HFXCC3035]
Published Date : 28 Oct 2003 Last Updated : 13 Feb 2020 Content Ref: DWN143880

Description

Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

Problem Statement

Applications on Community Connect 3 workstations are managed centrally by allocating packages. These packages can be either Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) or standard executable (EXE) format. In general, MSI packages are independent of one another but there are scenarios where one package depends upon another, e.g. an application requires another application to have been installed first. Furthermore, hotfix packages often have dependencies, either on the presence of a Microsoft service pack, or on the Tool or Application to which the hotfix is relevant.

If a Community Connect 3 network has one or more package dependencies and the order in which packages are installed is incorrect, workstation builds, rebuilds and restores may fail. This failure may be a pause in the build requiring manual intervention or may cause a workstation to build incorrectly.

Installation of HFXCC3035 itself will not address any package dependency problems, but once it is installed recommended solutions may be implemented as described in TEC165289 in the Other Useful Articles section.

Solution Statement

Apply HFXCC3035 to your network following the installation instructions below.

Refer to TEC165289 in the Other Useful Articles section to implement the required solution.

What will the Hotfix change?
HFXCC3035 will update RM AppAgent to version 1.31.1.0.

Who should install this Hotfix?

You should install this hotfix if you are experiencing workstation build or restore problems that would be resolved by controlling the installation order of packages. Possible scenarios and solutions for this are detailed in TEC165289 in the Other Useful Articles section.

Installation Instructions

How to install the Hotfix

(NOTE: If you previously started to install the hotfix but cancelled the operation, follow the installation instructions in the 'Installing after cancelling a previous install' section below)

1.      Download HFXCC3035.

2.      Log on to your first Community Connect 3 domain controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the hotfix to a temporary location (e.g. D:\temp).

3.      Run the hotfix by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3035.exe).  The hotfix will extract files automatically (to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3035_extracted) and begin to run the RM Installation Assistant to install the hotfix.

4.      When prompted, click Continue. The installation will proceed automatically and may take several minutes to complete. When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.

5.      Repeat steps 2-4 at each of your other Community Connect 3 domain controllers.  HFXCC3035 does not need to be run on Community Connect 3 Member Servers or DAMMS servers.

6.      Restart your Community Connect 3 workstations for the hotfix to be installed fully.

Upon reboot, the workstations will remove the existing version of RM Appagent and install the updated version. During this process the workstation will reboot several times. When the RM Logon screen appears, wait for 2 minutes before logging on to ensure that the upgrade process has completed.
