Hotfix to address a problem where Windows fails to detect blank writeable CDs on most Station Types [HFXCC3045]
Published Date : 16 Oct 2003 Last Updated : 13 Feb 2020 Content Ref: DWN156725

Description

**Please note this only applies to Community Connect 3™ and RM Smart-Tools 3 networks**

Any reference to Community Connect 3 applies equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

This hotfix is included in Service Release 4. If you have already installed SR4, you do not need to install the hotfix. If you have not yet installed SR4, review the information below to decide if you wish to install this hotfix now.

Problem statement

When a blank CD is inserted into a CD Writer, Windows does not detect that a blank, writeable medium is present. However, when the blank CD is present when the computer starts up, it is correctly detected. The problem does not affect workstations set to Personal Station Type.

This behaviour occurs when a Windows 2000 registry value that prevent CDs from automatically running is set in Microsoft Windows XP. In Community Connect 3, the auto-run feature was disabled using this setting on Shared Desktop, Shared Laptop and CyberCafe station types.

Solution statement

HFXCC3045 implements a different mechanism for disabling auto-run which does not have this side effect. The Shared Desktop, Shared Laptop and CyberCafe Station Type GPOs are updated with the new settings.

Warning: Installing this hotfix may cause a server to reboot automatically. Please take care when running this hotfix and try to plan its installation out-of-hours when the network is not in use.

Platforms
