Cookie and History Redirection Hotfix Rollback [HFXCC3060 Rollback]

Description

**Please note this only applies to Community Connect 3™ and RM Smart-Tools 3 networks**

Problem Statement

The following issues have been reported following the installation of hotfix HFXCC3060:

  • Advanced Staff User Type Desktop files do not roam
  • Intermittent synchronisation errors when using Microsoft Offline Files. These do not occur if using RM Synchronise.

Hotfix HFXCC3060 modified settings in the default RM UserTypes so that Cookies and Internet History files were redirected away from users' roaming profiles. Testing has shown that this can give significant performance benefits. Unfortunately, a small number of customers have reported problems as a result of incompatibilities between this optimisation and Microsoft Offline Files.

RM Hotfixes are required to be suitable for all customers, regardless of network configuration. As a result, we will not be releasing a replacement hotfix.

What will this Hotfix rollback change?

HFXCC3060 Rollback updates the default RM UserTypes with the original setting that was changed by Hotfix HFXCC3060. This instructs Microsoft Windows to store Cookies and History files in the default location inside the profile. Hotfix HFXCC3060 also ran a process to migrate user Cookies and History files to their Home directories. This migration is not reversed by this rollback mechanism. As a result, users will not have access to Cookies created in earlier Internet use. The effects of this are superficial: cookies are used by web sites to store temporary information about a user's preferences. Since Cookies are deleted by many actions, no important data is stored in them.

If you have particular users whose Cookies you wish to preserve, this can be done by manually moving their files from their home directory to their profile directory on the server. The Cookies folder in the <Home directory root>\My Settings should be moved in its entirety to root of the user's profile. For example, to preserve SystemAdmin's cookies, move the Cookies folder from D:\RMUsers\System Administrators\Work\SystemAdmin\My Settings to D:\RMUsers\System Administrators\Profiles\SystemAdmin.
