Update to RM's remote support tool after installing Microsoft's October 2004 Security Updates [HFXCC3092]
Published Date : 19 Nov 2004 Last Updated : 13 Feb 2020 Content Ref: DWN311677

Description

Issue

RM uses Danware Netop software to remotely diagnose issues on Community Connect 3 networks. Some features of this tool no longer function after installing 'Critical Hotfix for Microsoft Security Updates - October 2004 (HFXCC3090)', on a Community Connect 3 server running Microsoft Windows 2000. It is no longer possible to send keyboard-handling commands (such as CTRL-ALT-DEL) to a remote computer, for example, logging in to the server remotely.

You may also experience this problem if you use one of the following versions of Danware NetOp to access Windows 2000 servers or be affected by this issue via your support provider's inability to remotely access your servers:

NetOp Remote Control from version 6.50 up to and including version 7.65 build (2004278).

NetOp School from version 1.50 up to and including version 3.01 build (2004246).

Both HFXCC3090 and HFXCC3090B contain the Microsoft hotfix which introduces the problem described above. Unless stated otherwise, references below to HFXCC3090 apply equally to HFXCC3090B.

Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 in the Other Useful Articles section below. These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.

Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

HFXCC3092 is included in Service Release 5 for Community Connect 3; if you have installed Service Release 5 on your network you do not need to install HFXCC3092 separately.

Solution

Apply this Update if you have Community Connect 3 servers running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

Note: It is recommended that servers are rebooted after applying HFXCC3092, so plan to install the Update at a convenient time.

The Update can be installed on any version of Community Connect 3 and can be applied before or after HFXCC3090 has been applied.

What will this Update change?
HFXCC3092 applies the Danware NetOp hotfix N840987 to each Community Connect 3 Windows 2000 server to which it is installed. The Update will update NetOp keyboard and mouse routines to ensure they are fully compatible with the critical Microsoft security update MS04-032 delivered by HFXCC3090.

Who should install this Update?

This Update should be applied to all Community Connect 3 networks where HFXCC3090 has been (or is about to be) installed.
