Hotfix to allow disabling of the Mouse Control Panel in copies of the Standard and Advanced UserTypes [HFXCC3108]
Published Date : 15 Feb 2005 Last Updated : 13 Feb 2020 Content Ref: DWN346940

Description

Before installing any hotfix, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 in the Other Useful Articles section below. These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding hotfix installation and support.

Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.

What will this Hotfix change?

**Please note this only applies to Community Connect 3™ and RM Smart-Tools 3 networks**

HFXCC3108 will update the Standard and Advanced UserTypes to correct their policy settings which was preventing the desired functionality applying correctly when either of the usertypes was copied.

Note: If you have already copied these UserTypes and have used these copies, you will need to create another copy after installing the hotfix, apply all the settings as required from the original copy and make users members of the relevant UserType as appropriate.
The application of this hotfix does not correct errors in copies but only corrects the original RM Standard and Advanced UserTypes.

Platforms

You should apply this hotfix if you are running Service Release 4 or above and RM Type Manager, and are experiencing the problem described below.

Symptoms

If you create a copy of the Standard or Advanced UserTypes, Community Connect 3 users who are made members of the new UserTypes are able to change mouse settings via the mouse control panel. They have full access to this control panel.

If a Network Administrator attempts to remove this functionality for the new UserType by ensuring the group policy setting "Enable the Keyboard and Mouse control panel" is unticked (set to "Not Configured") in the Control Panel category of the UserType's properties, the settings do not apply correctly and users remain able to change their mouse settings.

Requirements

Community Connect 3 SR4 or above. The hotfix is only required if you are using RM Type Manager to create copies of the Standard or Advanced UserTypes and wish to correct the problem described above.

This hotfix should be installed on the first Community Connect 3 domain controller in each site. Servers and workstations will not need to be restarted after applying this hotfix but users will need to log off and back on to pick up the change made by the hotfix.

Installation Instructions

How to install the Hotfix

(NOTE: If you previously started to install the hotfix but cancelled the operation, follow the installation instructions in the 'Installing after cancelling a previous install' section below)

1.      Download HFXCC3108.

2.      Log on to your first Community Connect 3 domain controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the hotfix to a temporary location (e.g. D:\temp).

3.      Run the hotfix by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3108.exe).  The hotfix will extract files automatically and run the RM Installation Assistant to install the hotfix.

4.      When prompted, click Continue.

5.      The installation will proceed automatically.  When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.

6.      Now create a copy of either the Standard or Advanced UserType (as required) using RM Type Manager.

7.      In the new UserType, within the 'Control Panel' category, ensure the Limit user access to control panels policy is set to Deny access to Control Panels not specifically allowed by policy.

8.      Also in the new UserType, within the Control Panel category, ensure the Enable the Keyboard and Mouse control panel policy is unticked (set to "Not Configured").

9.      Create a test user as a member of the new UserType and test to ensure the functionality now works as desired.

10.  Add users into the new UserType as required.

Note: Any users who have made changes to the default Keyboard and Mouse control panel settings will still retain these changes after being added to the new UserType (although they will not have access to make further changes). If you require to set these users back to the default Keyboard and Mouse control panel settings, reset their profile using the RM Management Console.  See TEC8153 How to Reset User Profiles in Other Useful Articles section below.

Installing after cancelling a previous install

1.      Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3108_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe. (If this folder or its contents does not exist, re-run the HFXCC3108.exe file downloaded from the RM Support website).

2.      The RM Installation Assistant will initialise; click Continue to proceed with the installation.

3.      The installation should proceed automatically; click Finish when prompted.

4.      Follow the procedures in 'How to install the Hotfix' from step 5 above.

Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases

The components of HFXCC3108 are included in RM Service Release 6.

The hotfix can be installed on to networks running Community Connect 3 with Service Release 4 or above.

HFXCC3108 is not included in RM Service Release 4 or the CC3 XPSP2 Update Pack. If you install HFXCC3108 and later apply CC3 XPSP2 to the network, you will need to re-apply the hotfix. The hotfix should be re-applied by following steps 1-3 only in the section Installing after cancelling a previous install. This will re-apply the required changes to the Standard and Advanced Usertypes. Any copies of these UserTypes will be unaffected when the hotfix is re-applied.
