Summary
An upgrade to RM EasyLink to address issues relating to Web folders after installing a Microsoft security update and installing Learning Resources Refresh.
Description
Note: Any references to Community Connect 3™ in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.
Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support Web site (see Other Useful Articles below.) These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.
Platforms
Community Connect 3 networks with Learning Resources Refresh installed.
Symptoms
This upgrade provides solutions to two issues seen recently with RM EasyLink™:
1.RM EasyLink Web folders no longer open on client computers that have had Microsoft security update KB883939 applied (see TEC456753 for more information; this article is available via the Other Useful Articles section below).
2.The installation of Learning Resources Refresh (LRR) may prevent the accessing of Shared Areas via RM EasyLink.
Cause
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 security update KB883939 (June 2005 security update from Microsoft) will prevent Web folders from opening correctly within RM EasyLink (eg a user's home folder). The new version of RM EasyLink in this upgrade modifies the Internet Explorer behaviour used to open Web folders (from AnchorClick to httpFolder).
Note: Microsoft intend to release a client-side hotfix for Windows XP SP2 clients in the August or September security updates' release cycle. However we recommend that you install this server-side fix to ensure that any client can successfully access RM EasyLink with an IE5 or above browser.
The installation of LRR may break the opening of Learning Resources Shared Areas via RM EasyLink. This new version of RM EasyLink ensures that these links are recreated successfully.
Requirements
Important: Before installing this upgrade, it is strongly recommended that you ensure the following software is installed on your Community Connect 3 network:
Learning Resources Refresh - available via DWN280524 in the Other Useful Articles section below.
HFXCC3116 - available via DWN397346 in the Other Useful Articles section below.
Apply this upgrade if you are experiencing either of the issues described above. The upgrade can be applied to any Community Connect 3 network with Learning Resources Refresh.
If you have customised any part of your RM EasyLink interface, please refer to the Possible Issues section below.

Navigate to D:\rmnetwork\rmmanage\web components.
Right-click on the RM EasyLink folder and select Copy.
Paste a copy of the RM EasyLink folder onto your Desktop.

Right-click on the RM EasyLink folder and select Copy.
Open My Computer.
Navigate to D:\rmnetwork\rmmanage\web components.
Paste a copy of the RM EasyLink folder into this folder; you may be asked whether you wish to overwrite the existing RM EasyLink folder with your version. Simply click on Yes and continue to copy the files.
Close all opened windows then test and ensure your customisations have been restored.
More Information
What will this upgrade change?
HFXCC3126 will install and configure a new version of RM EasyLink. The new version will be 2.22.0.0.
The upgrade will back up and restore the following files from your current RM EasyLink installation (to persist any modifications you may have made to your Web site). These are from the D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\Web Components\EasyLink folder on the RM EasyLink Web server:
top.htm (defines the title for the RM EasyLink Web site)
bottom.htm (defines the AUP for the Web site)
notices.htm (any notices that you may have created)
links.htm (any useful links that you may have created)
images\buttons\logo.gif (your school logo)
Note: The old user.asp will be renamed to user.asp.OLD - you should not modify this file, but if you have, this .OLD file should preserve your modifications (to merge carefully into the new user.asp).
