Summary
Upgrade to Community Connect 3 workstation build components to improve functionality and correct a number of issues.
Description
Note: Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.
Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support website (see 'Other Useful Articles' below). These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.
HFXCC3138 requires the CC3 XPSP2 Update pack or above to have been installed. In addition, at least Hardware Support Pack 17 is required. N.B. Hardware Support Pack 22 includes HFXCC3138. The pre-requisites for HSP22 are that the CC3 XPSP2 Update Pack is installed and that the server is at at least HSP 10 level. The version of HFXCC3138 included in HSP22 has been modified to not be reliant on the build server being at HSP17 level therefore HSP22 can be installed on build servers at any level between HSP 10 and 21.
HFXCC3138 fully supersedes HFXCC3070 (DWN253897).
Platforms
Community Connect 3 networks with CC3 XPSP2 and above and HSP17 and above.
Symptoms
HFXCC3138 upgrades Community Connect 3 workstation build components to resolve the following issues:
If you take a restore image on a dual-boot workstation, then try to access the maintenance menu using RM Boot Manager, the workstation takes another restore image instead of showing the maintenance menu;
On the CL51 notebook PC, if RM Boot Manager is installed the default timeout to boot into partition 1 in does not take effect and you have to manually select it after each boot;
Some devices (usually Tablet PCs and Notebooks) do not get all the correct drivers in local mode on dual-boot workstations;
When building multiple workstations at the same time, occasionally more than one workstation will boot into Windows for the first time with the same machine name as another machine on the network, causing the build to fail;
Adding custom DOS network drivers to the build disk causes errors;
Installation of RM Commissioning Utilities would fail occasionally with unspecified errors;
RM Commissioning Utilities does not support very large Active Directory deployments;
The workstation build disk runs out of space (CAB files could be compressed further).
In addition, the default timeout for the RM Boot Manager has been changed from 30 seconds to five seconds. This change affects workstations set to dual-boot only; the timeout is the default time to boot into partition 1.
Cause
HFXCC3138 is an upgrade for the Community Connect 3 workstation build process. It provides some fixes to known bugs as well as some improvements in functionality.
Requirements
You should consider applying this Upgrade if you are affected by any of the problems noted above or wish to take advantage of the changes to workstation build functionality.
Note: Many of the fixes in HFXCC3138 only affect Community Connect 3 workstations set to dual-boot, i.e. with a Managed Community Connect 3 partition and a Local, non-managed partition with a second installation of Windows XP. You must have the correct licences for every install of Windows XP and should check this aspect if you are considering setting up any computers as dual-boot workstations.
HFXCC3138 can be installed on to Community Connect 3 networks with CC3 XPSP2 or above and HSP17 or above.
Impact on your network
This Upgrade should be installed on all Community Connect 3 domain controllers (beginning with the Forest Root).
Servers and workstations will not need to be restarted after applying this Upgrade.
You will need to re-create your workstation build disks after installing this update.
HFXCC3138 will upgrade RM Commissioning Utilities to version 1.75.0.0 and RM Workstation Rebuild BuildManager to version 3.78.0.0.

How to install the Upgrade
Note: If you previously started to install the Update but cancelled the operation, follow the installation instructions in the 'Installing after cancelling a previous install' section below:
Download HFXCC3138.
Log on to your first Community Connect 3 domain controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the Update to a temporary location (e.g. D:\temp).
Run the Upgrade by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3138.exe). The Upgrade will extract files automatically and run the RM Installation Assistant to begin the installation.
When prompted, click Continue.
The installation will proceed automatically. When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.
Repeat steps 2 to 5 for each additional Community Connect 3 domain controller.
Re-create your workstation build disks after installing the Upgrade.
Installing after cancelling a previous install
Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3138_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe (if this folder or its contents does not exist, re-run the HFXCC3138.exe file downloaded from the RM Support website).
Follow the procedures in 'How to install the Upgrade' from step 4 above.
Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases
The components of HFXCC3138 are included in RM Service Release 6 for Community Connect 3.
The Upgrade can be installed onto networks running Community Connect 3 with CC3 XPSP2 or above and HSP17 or above.
Possible Issues
Dual-boot Tablet PC rebuilds are not supported by this Upgrade. If you need to rebuild any Tablet PCs as Community Connect 3 workstations, it is recommended that they are only rebuilt as standard Tablet PC workstations, i.e. with a single operating system. Dual-boot Tablet PCs may encounter driver problems on the second partition - for example, the Tablet pen may not work as expected. This issue is still under investigation but does not affect the first partition on a rebuilt Tablet PC or any other hardware types (desktop and notebook PCs) built as dual-boot workstations.
