Description
Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support Web site. These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.
Any references to Community Connect 3™ in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.
HFXCC3144 can be installed on to Community Connect 3 networks running Service Release 4 or above.
Platforms
This Hotfix is designed for deployment on very large Active Directory infrastructures only. It will not benefit standard school or college establishments.
Symptoms
In very large Active Directory environments, some RM Management Console tasks can take longer than expected. In particular, opening the RM Management Console, viewing user properties and viewing the printers node.
Note: This is an issue restricted to very large, enterprise Active Directory deployments where multiple establishments, each containing many organisational units, are arranged in a single hierarchy.
Cause
HFXCC3144 alleviates the situation described above by further optimising Active Directory searches so that objects from other establishments are not included in the scope of the search.
You should only apply this Hotfix if you are administering a very large Active Directory structure using Community Connect 3.
HFXCC3144 should be installed on all Community Connect 3 domain controllers beginning with the Forest Root. It should also be installed on other Community Connect 3 servers, for example DAMMS servers. Servers will not need to be restarted after applying this Hotfix. However, workstations will need to be restarted to update the RM Location Services package.

This Hotfix should be installed on all Community Connect 3 servers (beginning with the Forest Root domain controller) in all establishments across the enterprise.

HFXCC3144 will update RM Location Services to version 2.45.0.0.
Known issue
If HFXCC3144 is installed, the RM Management Console opened, and then the HFXCC3144 installation is re-run, the server will reboot immediately and without warning.
To workaround this issue, run iisreset on the server (from the Run prompt, logged in as an administrator user) prior to re-installing HFXCC3144 if you ever need to do so.
You will not see this issue if you do not re-install or re-run HFXCC3144, or if the server has been rebooted subsequent to the previous install of the Hotfix.

How to install the Hotfix
(Note: If you previously started to install the Hotfix but cancelled the operation, follow the installation instructions in the Installing after cancelling a previous install section below)
1.Obtain HFXCC3144 from your Support provider.
2.Log on to your first Community Connect 3 domain controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the Hotfix to a temporary location (e.g. D:\temp).
3.Run the Hotfix by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3144.exe).The Hotfix will extract files automatically and run the RM Installation Assistant to begin the installation.
4.When prompted, click Continue.
5.The installation will proceed automatically.When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.
6.Repeat steps 2 to 5 for each additional Community Connect 3 server (including all other domain controllers and Member Servers such as DAMMS servers) in each establishment across the enterprise.
7.Restart workstations at your convenience to ensure they are updated.
Installing after cancelling a previous install
1.Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3144_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe. (If this folder or its contents does not exist, re-run the HFXCC3144.exe file you obtained from your Support provider).
2.Follow the procedures in How to install the Hotfix from step 4 above.
Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases
The components of HFXCC3144 are included in RM Service Release 6 for Community Connect 3.

What will this Hotfix change?
HFXCC3144 will update RM Location Services to version 2.45.0.0
Version 2.45.0.0 of RM Location Services further optimises Active Directory searches. In particular, searches for servers that host RM services such as Easylink and Printer Credits. For example, when searching for which server in an establishment hosts the Printer Credits manager service the search is now tightly scoped to avoid including any servers from other establishments. Also the attributes used to search for the servers have been changed to be indexed attributes that are quicker to find in the Active Directory.
