Summary
Update to RM Local Support Tools and RM Auditor 1.2 to resolve an issue with the Lsass.exe process.
Description
**Please note this only applies to Community Connect 3™ and RM Smart-Tools 3 networks**
Note: Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.
Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support Web site (see 'Other Useful Articles' below). These articles detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.
HFXCC3150 fully supersedes HFXCC3111.
Platforms
Community Connect 3 networks with Local Support Tools or RM Auditor version 1.2.
Symptoms
This Update addresses a problem which may be seen where the following three conditions are met:
1.The RMC3IEngine (a shared component of RM Auditor and RM Local Support Tools) is installed on workstations;
2.The RM SM Utility (a component of RM Auditor) is not installed on all workstations;
3.Version 2.9.0.0 or later of the RM Printer Wrapper Service is installed on workstations.
If the RM Printer Wrapper Service is installed on a workstation after the RMC3IEngine, a task is generated to register the RM Printer Wrapper Service with the RM SM Utility even if this is not present. This task will persist and be continually retried by the RMC3IEngine. This can generate high LSASS activity on the Forest Root Server as the RMC3IEngine queries the server for the location of the RM SM Utility.
Cause
This issue is caused by the RMC3IEngine continually attempting to process a task for the RM SM Utility even though this may not be present. The updated version of the RMC3IEngine will now:
1.Only attempt to locate the RM SM Utility on the local machine where it is running since this would always be the correct location if the RM SM Utility were present. This will remove the LSASS activity generated by querying the server for the location of the component;
2.Attempt to process tasks as required but now delete tasks for the RM SM Utility after ten failed attempts.
Requirements
It is recommended that you apply this Update if you are using RM Local Support Tools or RM Auditor 1.2. The Update can be applied to any Community Connect 3 network with RM Local Support Tools or RM Auditor 1.2.
Installation of this Update will install a new version of the RMC3IEngine component. As a result of this Local Support Tools and RM Auditor 1.2 (if present) may not function normally for the duration of the Update's installation.
Impact on your network
This Update should be installed on all Community Connect 3 servers where Local Support Tools or RM Auditor 1.2 is installed (beginning with the Forest Root).
Servers will not need to be restarted after applying this Update.
Workstations will need to be restarted to complete the installation of this Update.
Installation of this Update will stop and start the RMC3IEngine service. As a result of this RM Local Support Tools and RM Auditor (if present) may not function normally for the duration of the Update's installation.
