Critical Update to RM Group Resource Manager [HFXCC3158]

**Please note this only applies to Community Connect 3™ and RM Smart-Tools 3 networks**

Before installing any software update, please refer to TEC90813 and DWN59018 on the RM Support Web site. These articles, detail RM's recommendations regarding software update installation and support.

Any references to Community Connect 3 in this document apply equally to RM Smart-Tools 3.


 



Platforms

You should install this Critical Update if the following conditions are met:

  • You are running a Community Connect 3 network with SR5 or above installed;
  • You are running a Community Connect 3 network with SR4 and Learning Resources Refresh installed.

We recommend that you apply this Critical Update without delay.

Note: The update fully supersedes HFXCC3116.



Symptoms

This update addresses the following two issues:

  1. Creation of a Program Set on multi Domain Controller networks results in an error message being displayed. The error message contains the following text (where <resource name> is the name of the resource):

"ERROR: Failed to create Program Set '<resource name>'. The Error was (-2147463164)"

  1. Renaming a Staff Subject Area does not always update the Staff Subject Area in relevant Learning Resources.



Cause

This Update puts on a new version of RM Group Resource Manager (v5.5.0.0) which contains corrected functionality to prevent the specified problems from occurring. It also contains the following versions of related components (these components will not be installed if newer ones exist on the server):

RM Management Console  v2.204.0.0
RM Resource-finder  v1.33.10.0

HFXCC3158 should be installed on all Community Connect 3 Domain Controllers. Servers will not need to be restarted after applying this Update. Workstations will not need to be restarted as they are not affected by this update.



Requirements


It is recommended that you apply this update, if you have applied the Learning Resources Refresh and/or Service Release 5.

HFXCC3158 should be applied to all Community Connect 3 Domain Controllers beginning with the Forest Root. No servers will need to be restarted.



Download Instructions

  1. Click the HFXCC3158.exe file link to download the Critical Update.
  2. Choose to Save the file, browse to the temporary location you wish to save it to (eg D:\temp) and click Save.
  3. When it has downloaded, follow the installation instructions below to install the Critical Update.

Installation Instructions

How to install the Critical Update

Note: If you previously started to install the Critical Update but cancelled the operation, follow the installation instructions in the 'Installing after cancelling a previous install' section below:

  1. Download HFXCC3158
  2. Log on to your first (Forest Root) Community Connect 3 Domain Controller as Administrator (not SystemAdmin) and copy the Critical Update to a temporary location (eg D:\temp).
  3. Run the Critical Update by double-clicking the self-extracting executable file (HFXCC3158.exe). The Critical Update will extract files automatically and run the RM Installation Assistant to begin the installation.
  4. When prompted, click Continue.
  5. The installation will proceed automatically. When prompted that the RM Installation Assistant has finished, click Finish.
  6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 for each additional Community Connect 3 Domain Controller in every site.

Installing after cancelling a previous install
  1. Browse to D:\RMNetwork\RMManage\RM Hotfixes\HFXCC3116_extracted and double-click the file RM Installation Assistant.exe (if this folder or its contents do not exist, re-run the HFXCC3158.exe file downloaded from the RM Support Web site).
  2. Follow the procedures in 'How to install the Critical Update' from step 4 above. 

Important - Interaction with RM Service Releases

The components of HFXCC3158 are included in RM Service Release 6 for Community Connect 3.

HFXCC3158 will provide the following components:

  • RM Management Console v2.204.0.0
  • RM Resource-finder v1.33.10.0
  • RM Group Resource Manager v5.5.0.0

No new packages will be installed by this Critical Update, and workstations will not have to be rebooted for these changes to take effect.
